A Year of Action for #Enviroweek 2018

As this week is #Enviroweek it is important that we acknowledge the progress ³ÉÈË×ÛºÏÍø has made in 2018 towards creating a more sustainable environment at school.

Multiple initiatives have been implemented across the school to promote student ecological and sustainable awareness, and provide opportunities to improve our ecological footprint.

Sustainability at ³ÉÈË×ÛºÏÍø 2018

  • Successfully installed 100kWs of solar panels
  • Installed multiple water stations to encourage reusing bottles
  • Reusable water bottles in the Year 7 and 8 stationary pack for 2019
  • Installed recycling bins around the school
  • Replaced lights with LED lights to conserve energy
  • Started garden pods and compost worms in the TAS area and Junior School
  • Fundraised for Solar Buddy’s – small portable solar lights
  • O’Connor House built 50 Solar Buddy devices and sent them to school communities in PNG that are living in energy poverty.
  • Implemented a whole-school Earth Hour
  • Brought in BYO container in food technology classes
  • Added Clean Up Australia at Bronte Gully and Bondi to the social justice program
  • ‘The Great Book Swap’ at the Junior School promoting the reuse of reading books and fundraising for Indigenous Literacy Foundation
  • Stopped providing bottled water at staff development days and various school events to encourage staff to bring their own sustainable water bottle.
  • Year 7-10 all created an advocacy project related to sustainability

  • Use reusable bags
  • Bring your own sustainable water bottle
  • Reduce food waste
  • Turn off electrical appliances as you leave the room
  • Choose active or public transport over cars
