About Powerschool (formerly known as Haiku)
Liberating education through online learning
One of the key touchstones in our 2015-18 strategy is Innovation and Environment, part of which is embodied by providing appropriate technology and innovative collaborative classrooms for our students. Powerschool is a web-based learning platform that has come to play a central role in delivering on this commitment.
Powerschool has been specifically developed to work interactively with school curricula. It provides a ‘cloud’-based platform for information storage and resource sharing, which effectively extends the classroom to a web-based environment, helping us bring to life our philosophy of Liberating Education.
Both teachers and students are able to share educational content at a personal or classroom level. This gives students more opportunities for participation than ever before – they can leave comments on shared content or set up discussions to start a dialogue with the class, a group of students, or one-on-one. Everyone has the ability to post text, links, photos, videos, and more to project pages within the online classroom, helping to engage even the most reticent learners. And for quick feedback or lesson initiation, teachers can start a poll to engage the class in a discussion.
Because content access is so simple via Powerschool, the students are empowered to become responsible for their own learning, making classes are more public and inviting than they used to be. The Powerschool system also allows us to create clear scaffolds for both teachers and students, so both teaching and learning progress is understood at all levels. This helps students progress at their own pace, or seek help from the teacher or from other students when they need it.
